Audubon Bird List for Oaky Woods
The two bird lists below indicate bird species observed on two trips to
Oaky Woods by Ocmulgee Audubon. The smaller number of birds observed in
2004 as compared to a similar trip near the same time of the year in
1992 does not reflect a decline in bird species, but rather a
difference in the number of observers, locations within Oaky Woods
where observations took place, daily bird movements within their
habitat, and the fact that the observer recording the information in
2004 did not list the more common bird species observed.
However, loss of habitat due to the proposed housing development in
Oaky Woods would drastically reduce the species of birds in these lists
as they are birds that require a natural, forested environment, free
from development, as Oaky Woods has existed in the past.
